The Rise and Fall of the British Nation – David Edgerton.
David Edgerton is Professor of Modern History at King’s College, London. He is the author of a sequence of ground-breaking books about twentieth century British history.
In this, his latest book, he reveals a country subject to radical change and upheaval. Out of a liberal, capitalist, genuinely global power arose from the 1940s a distinct British nation, committed to internal change. This too changed in the 1970s to become bound up with the European Union and foreign capital.
At times such as these, it pays to take a long-term historical perspective.
