image of portable magic bookFrom Friday January 20th to Sunday February 5th StonyWords 2023 will be in full swing around the town. The festival opens with the Bardic Trials and the Song Loft’s Feast of Harp Music and concludes with Stony Theatre Society performances of Neddie the Trojan Horse and an evening of storytelling.. A rich programme of talks includes a trip to Bolivia and Peru, the fate of grand country houses after the war, a tour of gardens built by eccentrics, a biography of The Wife of Bath and a study of Brexit.

Well known author Sarah Pinborough will talk about writing for book and screen, Oxford academic Emma Smith brings us ‘Portable Magic’ – exploring the power of books. The Stony Playreaders take us behind the Richard 111 plaque in the High Street and Alliance Française invites you to meet Victor Hugo over lunch.

The full programme will be available in December with details of the 27 events run by more than a dozen organisations and individuals and information about venues and booking arrangements will be available on www.stonywords.org.uk.

The StonyWords Festival has been providing cheer for Stony and the surrounding area during the dark days of January for many years. There is something for everyone and all are welcome.
