Friends of Stony Stratford Library - The Rhyme & Reason of Poetry Talk
Venue: Online via Zoom
Date: 11 Mar 2021
This FoSSL talk will be delivered by Vanessa Horton, and promises to be a very interesting and entertaining talk on The Rhyme and Reason of Poetry. The talk will be a zoom presentation and discussion on Thursday 11th March at 7pm.
Vanessa Horton is a former Bard of Stony Stratford and is a regular on the local spoken word scene. She started her poetry ‘career’ with a 50th birthday challenge to write and perform 3 poems a month for a whole year. She has performed at the Milton Keynes and Buckingham Literary Festivals and was also Poet in Residence for the latter. Her poetry is described as ranging from hauntingly poignant to salaciously funny – one way or another you may end up in tears…
Vanessa will talk about what moves her to write poetry, how she goes about doing so and why her children are mortified whenever she performs!
She will tell you about her year as Bard and how that affected her writing. She will share a few examples of her poetry with you and may even be brave enough to do a ‘poem on the spot’ challenge. She will regret this.
Vanessa would like you to please note that this will be a fun talk about her personal approach and experiences and in no way an academic lesson on poetry writing.
If you would like to join us for this talk and discussion please email: email@example.com. A link to the talk will be sent to you a few days before 11th March. These zoom talks are free to attend.
