With the old Roman Road (Watling Street) as its centre, “Stony” has long been a place of transport and hospitality. They hey-days of the coaching era ensured that hostelries abounded and thrived. Even today, Stony has a fine selection of independent and characterful pubs and restaurants.
This fascinating slide-show offers a mere glimpse into the recent history of the town from Victorian times to now.
There will also be an opportunity for a brief introduction to the McCarthy & Stone retirement homes in Stony Stratford.
Located on Vicarage Road in Stony Stratford, the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder McCarthy & Stone developed a modern collection of 1 & 2 bedroom Retirement Living PLUS apartments exclusively for over 70’s. The site was a former Vicarage from 1881 and incorporates the former garden wall which is Grade 11 Listed. McCarthy & Stones commitment to quality and customer service continues to be recognised by homeowners. In March 2019, the Group received the full Five Star rating for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for the fourteenth consecutive year – making it the only UK housebuilder, of any size or type, to achieve this accolade.
Doors open: 2.15pm. The event is in the “Beechey Room”, which is accessible via the rear door of York House. Wheelchair access is provided, and York House has a disabled access toilet.
