Approaching the Summit by Different Routes: translation, performance and Laforgue – Peter Rafferty.
Is poetry really what is lost in translation? Can translated poetry move us both on the page and in performance? How faithful should you remain to the original and does playfulness have a place?
In an interactive session, poet and translator Peter Rafferty will look at these and other questions and at different approaches to translation, through readings both of other interpreters and of his own work, in particular that of the French symbolist poet Jules Laforgue.
