Apple Day

Our Apple Day has been rebranded as the Autumn Fayre! We are delighted to confirm that our Autumn Fayre will be held on Sunday, 25th September 2022 from 12 noon - 4pm at Wolverton Road Recreation Ground, Stony Stratford. Please see our Autumn Fayre page under 'Annual Events' for details.

On 14 October 2012, Stony Stratford Town Council hosted its' first Apple Day. The Apple Day was held at Mortimer Park, which is the site of the community orchard.

The purpose of the event was to;
• Welcome people to the riverside site
• Make the community aware of the draft plans for the community orchard
• Celebrate everything appley, community orchards etc

Many games were played such as a Treasure Hunt, Hook an Apple and Bash a Rat. Punch and Judy were up to no good, and the children had an apple themed story time courtesty of the Friends of Stony Stratford Library. Stony Stratford Childrens Centre were working with children cold cooking apples (decorating them with icing etc) and carving apples. Much fun was had by all!

There were also Cider making demonstrations, apple pressing, the longest peel competition, apple pie competition and displays of 150 heritage varieties of apples.

The Town Councils’ draft community orchard plan was on display and all those who responded whole heartedly supported the proposals and many volunteered to work on the project.

18 varieties of English Apples were available to purchase as well as quinces and medlar. The MK Food Bank van was on site and collected boxes of donations which was a great community effort. Friends of the Earth attended to remind us all that bees and other pollenators are under threat.

The Mayor of Milton Keynes quoted in MK Pulse "Stony Stratford's Apple Day in Mortimer Park was brilliant, I've never seen so many apples!".

The event was such an overwhelming success that the Town Council decided to make it an annual event.

Apple Day and The Big Lunch are now part of the events that take place on an annual basis for the enjoyment of the community. If anyone would like to assist these events as a volunteer on the day it would be very much appreciated.
