Stony Stratford Lantern Project 2017 - Session 2
Venue: York House Centre, London Road, Stony Stratford
Date: 25 Nov 2017 - 26 Nov 2017
Time: 10:00 to - 16:00
It’s time to get creative and make your lantern ready for the Lantern Procession at this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On Fun Day on Saturday 02 December. If you’ve been watching the procession for years but have never taken part then maybe this is the year for you to join in?? There will be plenty of Volunteers on hand to guide you through the lantern making process so don’t worry if you think you’re not artistic - just get stuck in!
Leaflets and posters will be appearing in school book-bags and around the town inviting you to join us at the York House sessions on:
Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th November
Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th November
Sessions run from 10am til 4pm and a cafe will be available throughout for snacks, drinks and light lunches.
Anyone can make a lantern (although young children will need help) - this project is for the WHOLE COMMUNITY and all ages and abilities are welcome. Construct your frame from willow withies and masking tape and cover it in colourful tissue paper and PVA glue - the design is limited only by your imagination. The lanterns are lit from within with candles and make a wonderful spectacle as they are paraded through the streets of Stony Stratford ready for the switching on of the Christmas lights. Magical!
The theme for this year’s project is ‘Santa’s Workshop’ – we're thinking toys, elves, reindeer, presents, or even Father Christmas on his sleigh...So get your thinking caps on for some fun and colourful creations!
The number of lanterns is limited to 280 - we can't fit any more into the building! Last year the project sold out and sadly we had to turn some families away so we strongly advise that you "pre-book" your lantern(s). An application form will be available to download from the York House website from 01 October 2017:- www.york-house.org.uk.
Shout-Out for Lantern Volunteers!
The Lantern Project relies almost exclusively on Volunteers to help organise and run the workshops and the procession. We are always on the lookout for new Volunteers to help run the project. If you have some time to spare (even just a few hours) and fancy donning one of our lovely purple t-shirts and joining the Lantern Volunteers then please contact Fiona on 01908 563361 or firstname.lastname@example.org
York House Centre gratefully acknowledges financial assistance from Stony Stratford Town Council, Stony Stratford Business Association, Milton Keynes Community Foundation and the York House LocalGiving.Com Fund for this project.
