In the 1770s a group of Methodists worshipped in a large barn behind the Talbot Inn in Stony Stratford (now 81 to 85 High Street) and John Wesley preached there three times. It was the meeting place until 1844 when the present church was built in Cow Lane near Coffereys Close. Cow Lane is now Silver Street and Coffereys Close (formerly Cow Fryers) is now Cofferidge Close.
It may not be on the High Street but Stony Stratford Methodist Church is at the heart of the community. You’ll find a welcome here whoever you are and whatever your reason for coming. The church seeks to show God’s love in the world in its worship, its meeting together and its sharing with the many groups who use the premises.
Of course church is not just about what happens in the building on Silver Street. You’ll meet us out and about and involved in what’s going on locally. We’re ready to listen to what matters to those around us and move on together in the life that God gives.
