Garden lovers of the world –
feast your eyes on Stony Stratford’s beautiful gardens
This biennial event, established in 2003, was organised for the first time by the Stony in Bloom Group. It was an opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy a stroll and admire eighteen charming gardens and two allotment sites (open 2–5 pm) in Stony Stratford.
On the Saturday visitors were welcome to the opening of the new Russell Street School Science Garden.
At York House delicious home-made cakes, sandwiches and drinks were served by the WI.
By taking part in Stony Open Gardens, not only were you supporting Stony in Bloom, you were also aiding Willen Hospice, which may not survive this period of financial difficulty without your help. Willen Hospice provides unique care and comfort to terminally ill adults and vital support to their families.
In addition to 50% of money raised by Stony Open Gardens, all proceeds from the lottery and raffle, with a first prize of £1,000, went to Willen Hospice.
"Stony Open Gardens" Opens

The Official Opening was performed at York House by Christopher Eyes from Willen Hospice. He spoke on behalf of Willen Hospice and thanked SOG for their efforts before cutting the tape. To his right in the photo is Gill Williams (in red) who organised through the WI mouth-watering cakes to take with tea and, on the far right, is Janice Windon the overall co-ordinator of SOG.
Stony Open Gardens raises £4000 for Willen Hospice
The weekend proved not only very enjoyable but also very worthwhile inasmuch as the organisers were able to present a £4,000 cheque to Willen Hospice which was particularly appreciated in the current climate of recession. £1,882.90 was raised for Stony in Bloom's funds.
