Futures Group

Stony Stratford High Street

You may remember taking part in a survey as part of a Town Healthcheck for Stony Stratford in 2004. The aim of the Healthcheck was to look at the issues facing the town at that time, and in the future, especially with the ongoing expansion of Milton Keynes. The results of the survey were used to create a ‘Vision’ of how our community would like to see Stony Stratford, Fullers Slade and Galley Hill develop over the next 20 years.

The Stony Stratford Futures Group (SSFG) was formed in 2005 to produce an Action Plan to take the town into the 21st Century. The SSFG has its own constitution and is made up of representatives from the Town Council, Stony Stratford Business Association, various community groups in the parish, Milton Keynes Council and a number of local residents including those with links to Wolverton Archaeological Society, Stony in Bloom, and Milton Keynes Museum.

In 2007, the SSFG received funding for the part-time post of a Project Officer to help produce and carry out the Action Plan. This plan was agreed in 2008 and at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October the SSFG announced that it was successful in obtaining a grant of £120,000 from the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) for a programme of heritage themed improvements. This amount has been ‘match funded’ by Milton Keynes Council.

The SSFG is continually looking for active participation from the local community to be involved with this process and to help obtain other sources of external funding.
