Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG)

STONY STRATFORD NEIGHBOURHOOD ACTION GROUP (NAG)

NAG purposes and objectives

SaferMK’s Safer Neighbourhoods’ Delivery Group, made up of all the key partners and representatives from the town/ parish councils and other agencies, set up 29 Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGs) across Milton Keynes to enable local people to address local issues.

NAGs are made up of representatives from the community and from key agencies. Each NAG tackles the top three priorities that have been identified by the community. In Stony these priorities were first established following public consultation in the summer of 2007, and the Stony Stratford NAG held its first meeting in January 2008.

Stony Stratford NAG Priorites Update

Stony Stratford Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) is set up to deal with the key issues identified by the community’s public consultation on a local level. Your Neighbourhood Team, made up of local residents, Milton Keynes Council officers, members of the Town Council, Thames Valley Police representatives, local businesses, associations, and Barwatch, have all worked together on the issues your community raised in 2008.

Stony Stratford Neighbourhood Action Group Updates

I am pleased to say that we have had a number of successes over the past few months.

King Street has finally been allocated with the resident parking scheme. This scheme has taken well over 2 years to implement and I am pleased to say that it commenced on the 17th November. This should relieve the parking problems for the residents in King Street.

Boundary Crescent has been made into a one way traffic system from 17th November. This should relieve parking and speed issues in the Crescent. It is an eighteen month trial, so we will keep you updated on the impact of the scheme on the area.

For those that are walkers, the A5 bridge going over the river had become an
eyesore with all of the graffiti. The NAG worked with Milton Keynes Council, and the underpass on the Stony Stratford side has been cleared of graffiti and repainted. The NAG and the Parks Trust are now working together to see if signs can be erected to notify the graffiti offenders that the area is now being monitored and should any offenders be caught TVP will deal with them accordingly. The Parks Trust and Milton Keynes Council are liaising with Northampton Council to see if the Northampton side of the bridge can also be cleaned and repainted.

The underpass on the Queen Eleanor Road has also been cleaned. A conviction has been successful of an offending graffitist, who was caught about to start paint spraying the walls.

The NAG has also been working with Milton Keynes Council and there is now a “No Parking Sign” on the grass verge outside the Tennis Club. We would like to plant the area but do not have any funding so please contact the NAG chair if you can help us at all.

There has been a house numbering sign erected in Latimer, so when you now enter the area, the sign shows which way the house numbering is laid out. This relieves the traffic flow and assists visitors to find the house they are looking for much more easily.

The decision for the application for funding from Stony Stratford Town Council for the CCTV on Take Away Corner took place on the 15th November. The funding application was declined due to lack of evidence. I have now disputed with the SSTC Chairman as I do believe the information was never requested. My case is now being investigated. Further updates will follow in due course.

And finally for the NAG update I am pleased to say we have another new member, a Stony resident who joined us in October.

I would still like more residents to join us from Fullers, Galley Hill and Calverton End, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you can give up 2 hours once a month. It is a great way to meet other residents along with the authorities that support our area, become involved in the community and have a say in the future of the area.

The NAG is there to help with local issues so please do not hesitate to contact us by either email stonystratfordnag@gmail.com or call 01908 563492.

A great end to the year for the NAG.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Regards,
Denise Brunning
