Section III of the Disability and Discrimination Act, which refers to accessible websites, came into force on 1st October 1999. The act makes it unlawful for service providers to treat disabled people less favourably for a reason related to their disability.
A formal investigation of 1000 websites by the RNIB in 2004 (see PDF document) revealed that over 80% were next to impossible for those with disabilities to use.
